Workshop description: We are experiencing a new era of craftsmanship where products can be designed, produced and sold without large upfront investments in tools and long production chains. Thanks to digital design and fabrication it is possible to design, produce, sell, improve, and produce again in short cycles, enabling agile development of physical objects. This way of making things is related to the iterative process in which artisans constantly improve their wares, but the digital tools allow a different scale and pace, closely related to software development.
Now, designing and producing physical artifacts through digital fabrication is becoming more and more accessible thanks to various free and open source tools aimed at people without expertise in the field.
In this workshop, an overview of the available resources and possibilities will be given and every participant will design a piece of jewellery ready to be 3D printed, only by using tools freely available online, without any need of previous 3D modeling skill.
