Francesco Panese is Associate Professor of social studies of science and medicine at the University of Lausanne. He is also Director of the Musée de la main,a museum for science, medicine and society. He was also Director of the College of Humanities at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) untilJuly 2013.Francesco Panese works mainly in two research fields. (1) The development anduses of visualizations tools in the history of scientific knowledge and the investigationof visual technologies in contemporary biomedical knowledge. (2) The social andhistorical studies of health and medicine with a focus on patient-doctor relationshipand conceptions of the body in medical context. He is currently working on two mainresearch projects: i-KnoT, i.e. Improving knowledge translation in healthcare, whoseaim is to understand better and bridge the gap between clinical research and healthcare practice; second, a social study of the current development of “big neuroscience”projects.
