From 1974 to 1978 Raimund Erdmann conducted his master studies in industrial design at the School of Design in Zurich, Switzerland. From 1981 to1983 he did postgraduate studies in architecture and design at the University of California, Berkeley, USA and an internship in Buddhist temple architecture with a master temple carpenter in Kyoto, Japan.
In 1987 he founded the Erdmann Design AG as an independent industrial design and corporate design studio. He also founded the industrial design institute with the Swiss design collection at the Design Museum in Zurich. His first projects included the development of rescue equipment for the Swiss Air Rescue and the Red Cross.
During the 37 years of project management experience with 35 international design awards for excellence in industrial design Raimund Erdmann uses his human centered design methods also for teaching innovative development. Since 2000 he has been teaching design methods at the University of Bern in the master program. He also teaches master classes in medical design innovation at the Bern University of Applied Sciences.
Between 1984 and 1995 he taught and researched at different universities: School of Design in Zurich, University of Washington, Seattle, Syracuse University, University of Virginia, Blacksburg.
Among his swiss-CTI research projects were a 3D-modelling and data transfer system with the ETH Zurich, packing and logistic system for small series, navigation system for future operating suits together with the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland.
