Already since before his spectacular showcase of flight assembled architecture -complex bricklaying with a swarm of autonomous quadcopters- we've been trying to bring Fabio Gramazio to Lift, but managing those busy calendars was quite a challenge. But finally we made it! We are delighted to announce that this pioneering architect, this explorer of radical new ways of thinking about materializing architecture in collaboration with robots will speak at Lift14, in the Futures of Work session!
How robotics and digital crafting are changing architecture
Fabio Gramazio is an architect with multi-disciplinary interests ranging from computational design and robotic fabrication to material innovation. Both a world-class academic and a prolific practitioner, he is known for groundbreaking works such as Flight Assembled Architecture or the most controversial interactive illumination of Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse.
Holding the Professorship for Architecture and Digital Fabrication at ETH Zurich and the Singapore Future Cities Laboratory, Gramazio has built a unique laboratory to investigate how robotics and digital crafting will change architecture as much and as profoundly as the computer did? Will digital fabrication bring architects closer again to the actual process of building? How will large-scale robotics change the dynamics between creatives, engineers and construction workers? How will robots change the economics and aesthetics of architecture? And what does this mean for the rest of us, living and working with and in machines, for the relation about small ideas and building at scale?
