David Marcus

Founder & CEO, Echovox

David is a serial entrepreneur who was the first to break Switzerland’s telecommunications monopoly in 1996 by founding GTN Telecom. As its CEO, David grew the company to become one of the third largest telecommunications operator in Switzerland competing with large industrial consortiums (British Telecom, TDC, Swiss utility companies, Swiss railroads, …). GTN was backed by Venture Capital firm, 3i. David sold the company in 2000 to World Access (NASDAQ:WAXS -now delisted), then part of the Worldcom group.

In 2000 David started Echovox to develop the mobile platform into an interactive personal media and signed agreements with over 50 mobile carriers throughout Europe to use their infrastructure to deliver and bill mobile content.

In 2003, he founded VOX telecom, a "2.0" telecommunication carrier offering VoIP and routing services to the largest telecom groups such as France Telecom, Telecom Italia, Deutsche Telekom, KPN, Belgacom, Verizon and more.

In October 2006, David launched together with leading French media group M6, echo6, a joint venture with Echovox that aims at becoming a leader in mobile multimedia services (TV interactivity, storefronts, video, games and more) in France.

More recently, he has been focusing his time and attention with Echovox on the development of the first pan-European Internet Gateway to the mobile world, Zong. That enables individuals and companies to create and launch revenue generating mobile services across Europe in under 10 minutes.

David is a regular speaker at events such as the CTIA Wireless, Red Herring Venture Market Europe, 3GSM, First Tuesdays, or World Economic Forum-SKU.

David is currently Echovox’s CEO and Echo6 and VOX telecom’s Chairman.
