Beat Widler graduated from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, and holds the Swiss Diploma of Pharmaceutical Medicine. He works as an independent quality auditor, Good Clinical Practice & pharmacovigilance auditing expert.
Beat is looking back on a 30-year career in the pharma industry, primarily in the field of clinical development: From 1986 till 2011 he worked at Hoffmann-La Roche, first as an International Drug Regulatory Affairs Officer, then as a Senior Clinical Research Scientist. In 1993 he joined the International Clinical Quality Assurance department and from 1997 to 2011 he was the Global Head of the Department for Quality, Ethics and Systems in Roche Pharma.
He is an active member in a variety of international standards working groups and regularly lectures around the globe. He was an active member of the Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative as well as in OECD working groups and is a founding member of ACRES, the Alliance for Clinical Research Excellence and Safety. At Lift Basel, Beat Widler represents midata.coop, a consortium working on adapting the model of a cooperative society to a health data platform, a platform that is collectively owned by their users and implements new ways of sharing data with researchers, doctors and loved ones while operating at the highest levels of data security.
