Feb 24, 2016

To continue the program of Friday, February 12, at Lift16, we went beyond the buzz and into the reality of AI with speakers from the USA, Germany and Switzerland in the session Artificial Intelligence, Technology without Alternative?

Artificial Intelligence is hard. Hard to build, in some ways perhaps impossible, hard to grasp as a field of research and certainly hard to predict in all its consequences. Artificial Intelligence is easy, too: easy to conjure up grand, or ghastly, visions for, and certainly easy to utterly fail with as well. At Lift16, we’ll go take the pulse of AI and have a good look at what it all might mean for business, technology and culture.

Hannes Gassert - Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Technology without Alternative?

Hannes Gassert, entrepreneur at the intersection of media, technology and culture, interested in human-centric technology, open source, democracy and transparency, was the moderator of this second session of the day. In this short introduction, Hannes Gassert explains why artificial intelligence is more than ever an important subject to cover, away from the buzz and down to the real talk.

Alex Lebrun - Teaching Language to Machines

Alex Lebrun, head of Wit.ai at Facebook, turning speech/text into actionnable data and making it possible for anyone to create voice-controlled apps. In this first talk of the session, Alex Lebrun looks back on the history of conversational AI, its challenges and the vast distance that has been traveled since its modest beginnings.

Beyond the buzz, discover what companies such as Facebook are really capable of doing and where this might lead us in the near future.

Henri Bergius - Websites Designed by Artificial Intelligence

Henri Bergius, VP engineering at The Grid, an AI that builds your website based on its content, hacker and occasional adventurer, is the creator of Create.js and NoFlo. In this second talk of the session, Henri Bergius reveals for the first time how he and his team are automating design processes and how the use of such an AI could radically change the way websites such as the amazon catalog or no-budget blogs look like.

How do you teach a machine to understand beauty, color matching, smart use of blank space? Enter the world of AI-designed websites with Henri Bergius!

In this first Open Stage talk of the session, Min Li Marti asks the important questions that governments, corporations and citizens should ponder when it comes to AI.

Take a step back and consider this technology as a part of our human ecosystem with this talk!

Panel Discussion - Artificial Intelligence, Technology without Alternative?

Featuring Alex Lebrun, head of Wit.ai at Facebook, Henri Bergius, VP engineering at The Grid and Min Li Marti, member of the Swiss Parliament, this panel moderated by Hannes Gassert goes deeper into the subject of Artificial Intelligence and the burning questions that it evokes.

Silviu Andrica - Nowy Connect: be a smarter networker with AI

Silviu Andrica, co-founder at Nowy, using AI to help you network smarter, works on getting people to look up from their phones without missing opportunities to connect with one another. In this final Open Stage talk of the session, Silviu Andrica tells us the story of how a software engineer with zero specific knowledge in artificial intelligence integrated IBM Watson into an app, allowing users to find each other through their LinkedIn profiles.

From smart design to AI powered search capabilities, discover how Nowy Connect is changing the very way we network.
